Additionally, high clouds are expected to remain over us most of the state.Ī new low will move through the trough tonight and Saturday, potentially bringing another period of high clouds and increased instability, although diminished moisture and winds may prevent an increase in showers. The semi-permanent trough aloft is not expected to move much over the next several days, but an embedded low will move east away from the islands, leading to some short term stabilization of the island atmosphere. Models have been trending toward lighter winds for early next week, with the return of breezy trades likely delayed until mid-week. Nighttime land breezes over leeward areas will lead to mostly clear nights and mornings, giving way to onshore flowing sea breezes in the afternoons, that will prompt clouds and a few showers that will linger until sunset. With the light trades and drier air mass, windward areas will see limited showers after this morning, mainly during nights and mornings. Trade winds will weaken in response…becoming quite light Sunday and Monday. Meanwhile, a pair of low pressure systems passing north of the islands over the next week will weaken the trade-wind supporting ridge, while also pushing it closer to the islands. This trough continues to destabilize the island atmosphere, with morning soundings showing a somewhat moist and unstable profile.Īlthough showers have been fairly active in portions of the state the last couple of days, a drier air mass arrive later today into the weekend. This jet lies on the south side of a nearly stationary trough aloft, that has an axis just north of the islands.Ī low within the trough brought strong winds to the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa yesterday, but winds have diminished below Wind Advisory speeds.
